Vegan Month of Food, Day 7: Chocolate Tasting Plate from Tapateria in Colorado Springs, CO. ūüćę

The prompt for today is to eat something inspired by a movie, and this delectable platter evokes Chocolat, one of my very favorites. The versatility and power of the human senses are themes that recur in Chocolat, reflected here: These dark chocolates of 65-85% cacao packed in many distinct, if subtle, flavors and memories, from fruit to flowers to an ice cream cone I ate in Paris as a little girl. The ancient juxtaposition of spice and cacao, also present in Chocolat, is found here, with Sriracha sunflower seeds (top middle) served as a complement to these velvety little nuggets. Finally, the fact that I shared this plate with my best friend, her boyfriend, and my fiancé brings home another major theme of Chocolat: the importance of friendship and love.

Besides offering an all-vegan, gorgeous-dark-chocolate desert option (the way to my heart in itself), the Tapateria waitstaff is very friendly, helpful, and open when it comes to navigating the many vegan and veganizable options on its menu. Another major plus: the back porch is dog-friendly, so my bestie’s sweet pup could join us. I highly recommend Tapateria to fellow herbivore travelers passing through Colorado Springs.
